I'll admit it - I find the 30A stickers on the back of cars super annoying. They feel almost elitist, but more importantly, they remind me that I'm in fact NOT at the beach, while I'm sitting in traffic on 240 in landlocked Memphis, TN. If you're not familiar with 30A, it's a stretch of beaches in the South Walton area of Florida. What's funny about "30A" is that the beaches are the exact same a few miles down the road in Panama City Beach. In fact, I would argue that they are nicer there as you're directly on the beach and there are not dunes or brackish water. Maybe I'm just partial because I grew up going to PCB and even got married in Laguna Beach, FL (right outside of PCB). I just find that the vibe is more laid back and everything is just a tad bit cheaper too.
However, PCB really needs to up its shopping game. Dotted along Highway 30A are some of the best little gift shops you will find anywhere. It's a fabulous rainy day at the beach activity and when your life revolves around gift-giving, it's a pretty magical place to spend an afternoon. After strolling through many shops, my absolute favorite was Adaro Art in Watersound, FL.
Who They Are:
Adaro Art is owned by husband and wife team Francisco Adaro and Brooke Gontarek They originally met in Buenos Aires (where Francisco is from) and eventually moved to Watersound to open the gallery. Along with their son Oliverio and dog Salvador Doggie, they display the work of their favorite artists in their gallery as well as their own work. You can shop for any of these pieces online too!
Why They Are Great
1) I think you all know by know how much I love a shop dog, so Salvador "Doggie" ranks pretty high for me. 2) Adaro Art's mission of showcasing the work of other artists around the world is fantastic. "Not everyone is going to like my work," says Adaro, "so why limit our gallery to just my art when there are so many talented artists around the world. Brooke and I make sure to bring in art that we both absolutely love."
A Few of My Favs:
Brooke showed me the BABY SQUIRREL she rescued and is nursing back to health. EEEEEK! So cute.
